LUST for LIFE

16 Feb 2007

Concentrating on the cosmic energies that exist forever, not the brief and changing human morals of social or religious rules and laws, an apprentice may transform him/herself into a cynical, dry and egotistical person. Shunning humans turns one into a lonely being always unsatisfied with the world and yourself. You may become unable to relate to others and unable to enjoy life.

To become a true master with a genuine joy for life, you need a strong dose of "good humor." Skill and knowledge are a side effect of training, but "good humor" has to be cultured and nourished by the apprentice themselves.

It is not easy to cultivate "good humor" on the mat. On the mat the social facades and civilized varnish fall to the ground. Educated people become violent and aggressive when facing a weaker opponent. Friends risk the physical integrity of their buddies in the heat of "wanting to win". Individuals known for their liberal or democratic ideas and talk try to affirm themselves in the most primary, immature way.

The game is not only an exchange of blows, counterattack, violence, fear aggressiveness and brutality, ignorance and stupidity, but also a desire to dominate and subdue others at any cost. You need an ability to have a relaxed and positive interaction.

On the mat, culture "good humor" by yourself, in different situations again and again. You will surely become excited during training but do not be overcome by rage or excessive aggressiveness. If you have a rough match, treat the situation lightly and with a positive "irony", that everything is "part of the game".

If after the match you find you have failed, whether because of eargerness, fear, stupidity or crudity, do not be upset. Bare in mind what went wrong, store it for future betterment and get back in touch with the euphoric feeling of the mat.

If by chance you hurt someone or get hurt by somebody, this must not bring guilt or remorse. Training, similar to life, has its dangers. In order to die you simply need to be alive.
